Steve retired in 2017 after a successful 30 year career in law enforcement with the South Portland, Maine Police Department. He served in a variety of roles including, but not limited to, the Patrol Division, Detective, and Statewide Drug Agent. He also served as the Detective Supervisor for the last 10 years of his career. Steve received numerous commendations and awards during his employment with the police department, but his focus was on mentoring and teaching younger officers. He put an emphasis on the importance of legal searches and seizures to ensure successful prosecutions. Following his retirement, he was hired by a Corporate Payments Company as the Security and Safety Manager. He was soon asked to transition into the role of Corporate Investigator due to his experience conducting and managing criminal investigations. Steve spent over 5 years investigating internal and external fraud while gaining national recognition for his expertise on crimes related to credit card skimming operations. Steve Webster has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, a Master of Arts Degree in Leadership and he authored a book entitled, “One Promise Kept”...The case that made a cop and others that almost broke him. He is also a certified consultant through the International Association of Professions Career College.

Mike was born and raised in Miami and he is of Cuban descent. Technology became a passion for him from a very young age as he was 8 years old when his uncle brought home a non-functioning computer. His uncle had recently arrived in Florida from Cuba and he didn’t speak English, so Mike translated instructions and guided him as the pair fixed the computer. Mike was fascinated by the process and it left him with a desire to learn more about the technology. Mike experimented and learned everything he could about computers in his free time. He is completely self-taught and his knowledge is rivaled by few. Opportunities were scarce as Mike was growing up and he made some decisions that he regrets to this day. He became involved in criminal activity, which was commonplace in his environment, and was twice convicted of fraud related crimes and served time in prison. Mike accepted responsibility for his actions and pleaded guilty. Mike’s technologic expertise allowed him to make and install skimming devices in gas pumps that would capture card information. He would then re-encode that information and make money in a variety of ways. He made one mistake that eventually led to his arrest in 2017. Mike Perez created his own path to rehabilitation by working with law enforcement and others prior to his eventual guilty plea. He has traveled the country educating law enforcement, merchants, and other stakeholders. He speaks about how he committed his crimes with the hopes of improving prevention and detection techniques, while allowing merchants and financial institutions to mitigate their losses. Mike Perez has turned his life around with the support of his amazing family and friends, many of whom are in law enforcement and the corporate world. He is dedicated to contributing to society and is focused on helping others learn from his mistakes. He is most proud of the fact that he has gained the trust of many who doubted him in the past. This was only made possible by his continuous positive actions and willingness to admit his mistakes. He is a wealth of information and he is willing to share that information openly and honestly.
